Constant Surprises

Lately, this song has been on repeat for me. I’ve only heard a couple songs by Little Dragon, but slowly and surely this Swedish band is capturing my heart. This is one of my faves that I’ve listened too, titled “Constant Surprises.” I love the ease and fluid sound of her voice on this track but even more are the lyrics. Simply put, they make me smile and feel good. A light and airy feel, listen and let go let flow ..

Constant surprises
Coming my way
Some call it coincidence
But I like to call it fate

“Work hard, trust your gut, and believe anything is possible”

If anyone knows me, they know I adore Rachel Zoe. She is a true inspiration and I think she is beyond glam! She totally deserves the title, “Naturalista Fashionista” because I just love her clear esthetic she posseses. She does it ALL- stylist/editor of Zoe Report/designer/contributor to WhoWhatWear Blog “Ask a Stylist.” Her show is phenomenal and motivates me to work with her (my dream!) Here is a look into the diva palace aka her office AND an interview she did with Who What Wear.. PS. LOVE the nail polish rack! Def. have that in common with her 🙂

Shoes!

The fab, Rachel Zoe

Her nail polish rack with some gorgeous rings!

Explain your job in one sentence please:
I am a fashion stylist helping not only my red carpet clients, but women everywhere, look and feel their most beautiful.

What is a typical workday like for you?
I don’t know that I have ever had a typical workday, thank god or I’d get bored. My job keeps me on my toes where one day I am sorting through fabric swatches and vintage archives designing my line, the next I am in editorial meetings for The Zoe Report. Of course, then there is dressing clients for events, which will always be my favorite part of what I do. Add spending time with my son Skyler into the mix—I am fortunate enough to always have him right nearby—and I feel like the luckiest women in the world.

What is your go-to work outfit?
It almost always starts with a great structured jacket, then I build my outfit around it, usually by adding a soft layering tee and a crisp pair of wide-leg trousers or jeans. Obviously, the finishing touch is going to be a crazy tall pair of heels and an overload of accessories.

How did you get this job?Did you always know you wanted it?
I think the job kind of created itself. I was glamour obsessed from the womb, so it was inevitable that I would work in fashion.

What did you do before you started your company/freelance career?
I was on staff as a stylist at YM magazine…before that I was a hostess at a restaurant, where I met Rodger. ☺

What’s the best part of your job? The worst?
The best part of my job is that I am truly living out my dream while staying consistently challenged. Also, I get to work alongside an incredible team and am constantly meeting the most amazing, talented individuals. The worst part is that there are no set hours, so it is hard for me to ever stop and take a break.

How important is having a fashionable/chic work area?
It is everything. I am a very visual person so I need to feel inspired and comforted by whatever space I am in…if I see clutter, I get distracted.

Do you email or use the phone more?
Our whole company definitely operates on e-mail—it is more efficient. However, one can never underestimate the power of a phone call.

What surprises you the most about your career?
I think I surprise myself by constantly discovering new passions and interests, and setting new goals. Also, I am constantly surprised, challenged and inspired by working with my husband and our ever-growing team.

What changes do you make to your look if you have to go to dinner or drinks immediately after work?
Easy! Add a bold red lip and mascara, swap out my daybag for a sleek clutch and possibly climb into even higher heels.

What items do you think every working girl should own (clothing and accessories)?
A tuxedo jacket and trouser pants, a bow-tie blouse, a chic work bag, classic pumps, and a statement watch.

Do you use a Mac or a PC? (or Blackberry or iPhone?)
Is that a question? Mac girl all the way. For a phone, I rely on a Blackberry because I find it easier to send e-mails on, but I also love my iPad.

What do you listen to when you’re working?
The Beatles, U2, The Grateful Dead, Madonna

What are you wearing today?
The Hutton tuxedo pant from my fall collection – ask anybody I seriously live in these! The Connie top from my resort line, it’s a lighter spin on the Natalie from fall – the perfect layering piece. A vintage Chanel blazer – I bought this at Decades Inc probably 5 years ago and I’m still completely obsessed! Oh and Givenchy boots.

What do you try to teach your interns/assistants?
To work hard, trust their gut, and believe anything is possible.

Have you fulfilled your career goal or do you still have more to achieve?
I have fulfilled many career goals, the most crucial one being designing a line, but that truly just begins a whole new set of aspirations—so I will always have more to achieve. I prefer it that way, more is more!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to emulate your career path?
Intern wherever you can, work harder than anyone else and handle criticism well. Take each job very seriously, show up early and stay late, smile and appreciate every opportunity. If you are ever discouraged, remind yourself of all the reasons why you love what you do, and most importantly, have fun. Fashion is fun!

Photo Fashion Lovin’

These dresses and tops mix my two loves- art and fashion. Designers like Riccardo Tisci, Christopher Kane, and Albert Elbaz showcased an array of pieces with oversized pictures and trompe l’oeil prints, including both landscapes and nature. Just FAB!

Ankle Strap Shoes

This Fall I am loving the trend of ankle strap shoes. I see them in all the latest magazines and all over the runways. It is a subtle ankle strap that transforms any outfit from plain jane to polished and chic. Besides the ankle strap, there are a million different looks out there- a metallic heel, velvet prints, or a garnished bow.. endless variety! See which one inspires you! My personal fave? The Erdem Velvet printed platform pumps! They are everything!

NJ Fashion Week

This past Monday I had the pleasure of assisting designer, Gwen Beloti, in her debut of Spring 2012 collection ” Structured Fluidity” fashion show for NJ Fashion Week. It was a fabulous event in Hoboken, NJ alongside the Hudson River looking out to NYC. I was able to watch some of the shows going on that day and I was truly impressed by the designers. There is so much amazing talent out there in the fashion world and I just love finding new gems! After enjoying some of the fashion it was time to hurry along backstage where the madness and chaos began! There were 17 looks for 17 models, which meant no changing! A smooth sailing instead 🙂 Myself and two other fab ladies assisted in dressing the models and helping with whatever the designer needed. Overall, it was a huge success and the feedback on the line was great. It was an amazing opportunity for me and I felt very blessed to be apart of it! Cannot wait for more to come .. in the meantime here are some pictures from the show! See more—-> @ www.gwenbeloti.com

Beyoncé’s Baby Love

Beyoncé graced the cover of Harper’s Bazaar with nothing but her effortless glamour. The interview covered everything from her baby, to fashion, and how she balances her work life with family. She is a true inspiration, dipping in every industry from fashion to her campaign with Michelle Obama “Let’s Move.”

Beyoncé had a well thought out plan in revealing her pregnancy. “I put a lot of thought into how I wanted to unveil it. It was important to me that I was able to do it myself,” Beyoncé explains. While performing “Love on Top” from her latest album, 4, at the MTV Video Music Awards she revealed at the end of the song her baby love bump. It sparked the Twitter world to go crazy, with tweets going out at 8,868 per second, a record for the social-networking site.

“I didn’t want a crazy picture or gossip story to break the news,” she continues, “so I decided to say nothing and proudly show my baby bump. I felt it was more powerful to see the love and enthusiasm as opposed to saying anything.”

Something to look forward to for the mommy’s to be is the new maternity collection for the House of Deréon line that she is producing with her mother, Tina Knowles. Just another addition to her fabulous career!

All I see now are clothes that are flattering on a pregnant woman,” she says. “It’s been so exciting for me! I love figuring out designs that still make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant. Flow-y fabrics are always flattering,” she says, “but I still rock my stilettos.
As for her current fashion inspirations, Beyoncé says, “I love Kate Moss. I think she has great style. And I always admire Victoria Beckham and Gisele [Bündchen]. Their style is modern but always classic.”

Beyoncé, like her hit single, is ready to run the world. “I am finally at the stage in my life where I am not so concerned with other people’s opinions about my life decisions,” she says. “It is so liberating to really know what I want, what truly makes me happy, what I will not tolerate. I have learned that it is no one else’s job to take care of me but me.”

YES! B has done it again ..and again.. now time for some photos! Loved this shoot, pregnancy aaaand all ! Enjoy!
